Foot Pain
The foot is a highly complex structure consisting of 26 bones, 33 joints, and 100 tendons, ligaments, and muscles. In an average lifespan, an individual will take enough steps to circumnavigate the globe three times. The force on the feet is 120% of the body weight. Feet are all too often unappreciated.
At Healing Innovations we have treated many people with foot and ankle pain. We have been successful with reducing or eliminating pain from bunions, Morton’s neuromas, and fibromas in the arch. With neuromas and fibromas, there has also been a dramatic shrinking in their size. Although it is necessary to own a SCENAR for treating athlete’s foot, we have also found it to work as well as any cremes without the concern of what chemicals were being absorbed into the system. In working on the feet with the SCENAR, you are also treating the whole body through the Reflexology points and acupoints.
The most common complaint we have encountered is Plantar fasciitis. Often experienced in the arch, ball of the foot, or the heel, this kind of foot pain can be very disabling. As we age and the muscles of the foot get weaker, the foot tends to flatten which stretches the band of tendons (called the Plantar fascia) that cover the bottom of the foot. When they become inflamed as a result, the pain (especially the first steps out of bed in the morning) can be remarkably intense.
Since there is a structural issue going on, SCENAR is most effective when coupled with providing the foot with some structural support to offset the flattening of the arch that is happening. In these circumstances we refer our clients to Krista Kelley, a physical therapist at Mission Hospitals Rehabilitation Services, for orothotic support. Krista uses soft orthotics that are molded to the individual’s foot so that there are few, if any, adjustment difficulties. (We have known many clients who have paid a great deal of money for “hard” orthotics only to find them so uncomfortable as to be unwearable.) Krista knows feet, and we have yet to have a client we referred to her have anything but very positive things to say about her competence, attention, and quality of care. Once the foot is supported in an appropriate fashion, the SCENAR can resolve the pain in a very short time.
